Kathleen Meert, M.D.
Kathleen Meert, M.D., is Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She is the PI at Wayne State University for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network (CPCCRN). The CPCCRN pursues multicenter collaborative clinical trials and descriptive studies in pediatric critical care medicine. The CPCCRN seeks to reduce morbidity and mortality in pediatric critical illness and injury, and to provide a framework for the development of the scientific basis of pediatric critical care practice. Examples of research areas studied by Dr. Meert and the CPCCRN include pediatric sepsis, cardiac arrest, extracorporeal life support, pediatric pharmacology, traumatic brain injury, trauma-induced immune suppression, asthma, acute respiratory failure, and development and validation of outcome measures for use in pediatric intensive care. Dr. Meert has been the principal investigator for several studies conducted by the CPCCRN which focused on end-of-life and bereavement care for patients and families in the intensive care setting.
