Matthew Jackson

Biography

Matthew Jackson is an Associate Professor (Research Educator), tenured in the department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology.

Dr. Matthew Jackson Ph.D., was appointed assistant professor in the Immunology and Microbiology Department, Wayne State School of Medicine in 1989. He is a bacteriologist by training with a research focus on bacterial toxins. He was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1995 in recognition of his research accomplishments, introduction of a new microbial pathogenesis graduate course, and service to the school of medicine. In 1996 he was appointed course director of the medical microbiology course that provided an opportunity to introduce new teaching practices. In recognition of his teaching efforts, Dr. Jackson was appointed Assistant Dean of the Basic Sciences curriculum in 2005; a position held until 2020. His current research focus is on the development of innovative educational practices for graduate students.
