Biography

Nashat Imran, M.D., F.A.S.N., F.A.C.P.  is an Associate Professor (Clinical) in the department of Internal Medicine,

Dr. Nashat Imran is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Nephrology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He received his medical education at Jordan University of Science and Technology and finished his internal medicine residency at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He trained at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and served as a chief fellow in his senior year, 2013. Then, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, to join the Wayne State University School of Medicine faculty as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Imran has assumed several leadership positions and served in many administrative roles; he served as the associate program director for the nephrology fellowship before becoming the program director until July 2020. He is currently the renal section chief at Karmanos Cancer Institute and the acting chief of the nephrology division at WSU. In addition, he is the elected president of the Faculty Senate at the WSUSOM and the Executive Committee till June 2025.

Dr.Imran was the School of Medicine College Teaching Award recipient in 2019 and the Mentor-of-the-year award for the internal medicine residency program. In addition, he is the 2021 Paul E. Ruble Teacher of the Year Award for internal medicine residents. Recently, he won the Excellence in clinical teaching award in 2023 that's awarded to one faculty in the entire SOM. He continues to be active and engaged in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. He has mentored more than 50 medical students, residents, and fellows over the past eight years and remains very supportive of their professional career development, including after graduation.

He was the first author of three textbooks and multiple publications throughout the years, including being a first author for the prestigious CJASN and American Journal of Therapeutics.

Dr. Imran is a fellow of several professional societies, including the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology. In addition, he is a designated Hypertension Specialist by the American Society of Hypertension. He currently serves as the chair of the Events Committee for the international American Society of Onconephrology.
